On the hottest day of the year so far, we enjoyed a Southern French virtual tasting. Some of our ‘tasters’ were set up outside, enjoying the rose and their canapes!
First up was this year’s best seller – Puech Haut Argali Rose 2019. A beautiful rose that everyone loved. Made from Cinsault and Grenache, this was a wine that went down incredibly well – and the orders continue to roll in for this super wine. We visited Puech Haut on the Tour du Vin in 2018 – and it was nice for the tourists to reminisce on what was a fantastic visit there.
Our second wine for the evening came from 30 minutes down the road from Puech Haut, the other side of Montpellier – at the more ‘old school’ Château de l’Engarran. We tasted the Les Angelots Rouge 2016, that was a classic Southern French blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Priced at £13.50, this was certainly a great option that can be enjoyed by itself, or with red meat or cheese.
Great scores came in from the tasting panel – with the Puech Haut coming out on top with a fantastic average score of 8.61 – with the L’Engarran red just behind with a score of 7.72.
Congratulations to Janine Sjoblom for becoming the first two time winner of the Canape of the Week competition with her Coquilles St Jacques – you will see in the photo below, they look excellent.
