Italian Virtual Wine Tasting

Italian Virtual Wine Tasting

Our biggest tasting yet, with 35 people on screen at once for our Italian Virtual Wine Tasting.

The canapé competition was fierce, with plenty of contenders for the coveted Canapé of the Week prize – congratulations to Janine Sjoblom for taking the spoils with her fabulous Italian offering.

Onto the wines – we had a white and red pairing this week.

First up tasted San Gregorio Albente – Falanghina 2017 from Campania. Fresh and clean on the nose, with tropical flavours, then vibrant and floral on the palate – with notes of honey. This was a crowd pleaser and was enjoyed all round.

We then left Campania and mainland Italy to head to Sicily for Donnafugata – `Sherazade` Nero D’Avola 2017. Brilliant ruby red with purple hues, the Sherazade has a bouquet of fragrant strawberries and blackberries with violets and hints of black pepper. This wine was well received again from a very classy outfit.

As the marks out of 10 came in, the white Falanghina snuck it with 8.04 / 10 on average, just pipping the Nero D’Avola by 0.05 points, at 7.99 on average.

Another great tasting and we look forward to heading to Burgundy in France for the superb wines from Joseph Drouhin.
