We held our most successful virtual tasting yet with some fabulous Spanish wines.
With around 20 screens logged in on Zoom, we ‘visited’ Bodegas Muga in Rioja for our first wine – the brilliant Muga Blanco 2018. This blend of Viura, Malvasia and Garnacha Blanca went down very well with our tasters – and at £13.95 was deemed very good value as well.
One of the highlights of the weekly tastings is the coveted Canapé of the Week competition. As you will see from the photos below, lots of effort went in which adds to the fun nature of the tastings. Congratulations to Mel Redding for taking the spoils this week with her vegetarian offering!
We then moved onto the second wine, this time from Mentrida at the brilliant Jimenez Landi vineyard. We were especially pleased that members of their team in Spain dialed in for the presentation and were able to talk us through their wines. Many thanks to Jose Jimenez Landi (Winemaker), Pedro Cantero (Marketing and Export Manager) and Alfredo Martinez Macias (Managing Director) for their fantastic input and real insight into their excellent wines. Being able to explain how Biodynamic vineyards work in a foreign language was most impressive!
The Jimenez Landi Sotorrondero 2018 went down very well indeed with our tasters – and just snuck it as wine of the night with an average score of 8.34.
