We began our next round of virtual tastings last night, starting with two fabulous wines from Raul Perez from Bierzo in North West Spain.
With 15 screens on the call, the canapé of the week competition had some strong contenders with some excellent Spanish delicacies.
First up was the Ultreia Godello 2018 – this super low production wine had notes of citrus and tropical fruits. A touch of oak, with a fantastic weight. It paired perfectly with the charcuterie. All of our tasters noticed that this wine got better and better as the evening went on as it started to warm up and let the aromas flow. A great wine scoring an average of 7.92 from our panel.
We then moved onto the Ultreia Saint Jacques Mencia 2017. A wine that we have had in a recent taster case and also one we have had to reorder. A wine that went down a storm with the tasting panel – red fruit, savoury flavours, mineral notes and a wine that keeps on giving. This is a very good value wine at £14.50. This was the wine of the evening and received an average score of 8.19.

Congratulations to first timers Jeff and Louise for taking the spoils in the canapé of the week competition with their fantastic Pinchos offering!
We look forward to the next tasting in 2 weeks time where we will be heading to Mendoza to try the Caelum wines.
